چکیده
Using bioactivity-guided isolation of bioactive compounds; deacetylviguiestenin, 4-O-caffeoyl-2-methyloxirane-2-carboxylic acid and sandaracopimaradiene-1α,9α-diol were obtained from Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A. Gray leaves identified using spectroscopic methods. Their feeding deterrence activity against Sitophilus zeamais (Motsch.) including those methanol crude extract, fractions, the essential oil was determined. Results showed that T. could not show significant anti-feedant at a dose ˂0.29 μL/mg flour disks. The solvent some fractions isolated compounds, however, demonstrated S. zeamais. index 81.19 ± 5.94% 0.1% w/w (1 mg/g food) compared to 97.45 0.43% for neemazal extract (10% azadirachtin) (positive control) 10%w/w (100 food). EC50 deacetylviguiestin, azadirachtin (commercial antifeedant) 22140.23 9103.29, 3654.28 2715.09 14.59 5.59 ppm respectively. Although these compounds less azadirachtin, their are valuable alternatives.

Feeding deterrents against two grain storage insects from Euphorbia fischeriana.
The screening of several Chinese medicinal herbs for insecticidal principles showed that Euphorbia fischeriana roots possessed significant feeding deterrent activity against two stored-product insects (Tribolium castaneum and Sitophilus zeamais). From ethanol extract, four feeding deterrents were isolated by bioassay-guided fractionation. The compounds were identified as jolkinolide B, 12-deoxy...
متن کاملExtraction and Characterization of Essential Oils from Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A. Gray
The essential oils associated with the flowers of Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A. Gray were extracted and characterized via hydrodistillation and Gas Chromatography. Hydrodistillation was done in an all-glass Clevenger-type apparatus. The extracts from the hydrodistillation were subjected to gas chromatography where the components of the essential oils were separated based on their molecular ...
متن کاملStructural Activity of Bovidic Acid and Related Compounds as Feeding Deterrents against Aedes aegypti
Natural products present in preferred and non-preferred animal hosts of biting insects can exhibit interesting semiochemical properties. Recently, a novel fatty acid compound that acts as a feeding deterrent for blood sucking insects was identified from the gaur (Bos frontalis). In our laboratory we have prepared analogues of this novel fatty acid and explored their structure activity relations...
متن کاملInsect feeding deterrents in endophyte-infected tall fescue.
The presence of an endophytic fungus, Acremonium coenophialum, in tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) deterred aphid feeding by Rhopalosiphum padi and Schizaphis graminum. Both species of aphid were unable to survive when confined to endophyte-infected tall fescue plants. Feeding deterrents and toxic factors to R. padi and Oncopeltus fasciatus, large milkweed bug, were primarily associated with a...
متن کاملEffects of Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A. Gray Extract on Adipocyte Differentiation of Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A. Gray (Asteraceae) is widely used in traditional medicine. There is increasing interest on the in vivo protective effects of natural compounds contained in plants against oxidative damage caused from reactive oxygen species. In the present study the total phenolic and flavonoid contents of aqueous, methanol and dichloromethane extracts of leaves of Tithonia dive...
